ISAM’s Manual for Critical-Edition Has Been Published!

Prepared by Berat Açıl, Sadık Yazar, Kadir Turgut and Özgür Kavak Manual for Critical-Edition (For Texts in Ottoman Turkish) has been published as a handbook on the principles and procedures of publishing critically edited books for those interested in the publication of Ottoman Turkish manuscripts, within the scope of the “Late Classical Period Project” as part of the Reference Works Series of ISAM Publications.

A NEW BOOK from the Early Classical Period Project!

The book titled Erken Dönem Tefsir Geleneğinde Nakil Anlayışı (The concept of transmission in early tafsir tradition), which was written by Assist. Prof. Ömer Dinç, was published as part of the ISAM Early Classical Period Project under the Academic Works Series. Considering all the available information, the book deals with the thesis that tafsir represents the first stage of Islamic studies, and that tafsir is an "activity of understanding the Qur'an" which began with the revelation process and was determined by the revelation itself.

A New Book from the Late Classical Period Project: NAWAWĪ

A new book edited by Assoc. Prof. Nail Okuyucu was published by ISAM Publications under the title İslam İlim Geleneğinde Nevevî (Nawawī in the Islamic Scholarly Tradition) within the scope of Late Classical Period Project. The book aims to explore Nawawī’s life and scholarly personality, the environment that he lived in, his works, his thoughts and influences, and also to introduce literature by articles on aforementioned aspects of his life.

93th volume of Contents of Recently Arrived Journals has been completed
93th volume of our periodical Contents of Recently Arrived Journals, which includes the ‘Contents’ of the periodicals in foreign languages that ISAM continuously follows and which is published triannually, has come out. All of the volumes of this periodical, the first volume of which was published in 1994, are available in PDF format.
A New Book from Early Classical Period Project

Abu al-Mu‘īn al-Nasafī’s (d. 508/1115) book titled al-Tamhīd li Qawāid al-Tawḥīd, has been critically edited and prepared for publication by Dr. Ali Tarık Ziyat Yılmaz and published within the scope of ISAM’s Early Classical Period Project.

A New Book within the scope of the Early Classical Period Project

Cüveynî’nin Kıyas Anlayışı (Al-Juwaynī’s Understanding of Analogy) written by Assist. Prof. M. Macit Sevgili, was published among the Scientific Research Series as part of the ISAM Early Classical Period Project. The book covers the famous Shafi‘ī jurist/methodologist and an Ash’arī theologian al-Juwaynī’s (d. 478/1085) approach, evaluation, interpretation, analysis, findings, inferences and speculations regarding analogy (qiyas).

New Issue! İslam Araştırmaları Dergisi (47, 2022)
The 47th issue of İslam Araştırmaları Dergisi [Turkish Journal of Islamic Studies] has been published.
NEW BOOK within the scope of the Early Classical Period Project

Shams al-‘Aimma al-Sarakhsī’s (d. 483/1090) book Sharḥ al-Jāmi‘ al-Ṣaghīr has been published by ISAM within the scope of Early Classical Period Project, which was critically edited by ISAM Critical Edition Publication Board member Prof. Ertuğrul Boynukalın.

NEW ISSUE! The Journal Of Ottoman Studies (58, 2021)
New issue of Journal of Ottoman Studies, joint work of ISAM and İstanbul 29 Mayıs University, has been published.
TAFSIR OF ABŪ AL-SUʿŪD HAS BEEN PUBLISHED
al Irshād al-ʻaql al-salīm ilá mazāyā al-Kitāb al-karīm was published within the scope of ISAM Late Classical Period Project which was initiated in 2012. The work is 9 volumes in total, including one volume review of the work and the author, and bibliography. The tafsir of Shaykh al-Islam Abū al-Suʿūd Efendi, who was charged with the post of Shaykh al-Islam for around thirty years during the reign of Suleyman I and afterward, is one of the most important tafsir books in its field. Although the book has many editions, the ISAM version of the work completes other editions' shortcomings and errors in different aspects by using the author's version for the first time, containing over a thousand notes, and keeping the characteristics of the original text.
New Joint Publications Outside Turkey

Two books which prepared within the scope of ISAM Late Classical Period Project, Ḥāshiyat al-Tajrīd and Cāmiʿ al-usūl, published and distributed in Turkey by Turkish Diyanet Foundation were published in Beirut and their distribution was held by Darulrayaheen Publishing outside of Turkey.

A NEW BOOK published as part of the Project of the Late Classical Period!

The work of Ibn Ābidīn (d. 1252/1836) titled Sharh Uqūdi Rasm al-Mufti, which he wrote in the field of the manners and procedures of issuing fatwas (rasm al-mufti), was critically edited by Asst. Prof. Şenol Saylan and was published as part of the Project of Late Classical Period.

Müfessir Olarak Ali Kuşçu (ʿAlī Kushjī as a Commentator of the Qur’an)

Prof. Mehmet Çiçek’s book titled Müfessir Olarak Ali Kuşçu (ʿAlī Kushjī as a Commentator of the Qur’an) was published. This book, in which ʿAlī Kushjī's exegesis is analyzed through the gloss written by al-Taftazānī over a gloss of al-Kashshāf, introduces ʿAlī Kushjī and his work in detail and reveals his contributions to tafsir by presenting both his views on the methodology of Qur’anic exegesis and his interpretations of the verses of the Qur’an.

ʿAlī Kushjī’s (d. 879/1474) commentary on Taftāzānī’s book about (d. 792/1390) al-Zamakhsharī’s (d. 538/1144) Qur’anic exegesis al-Kashshāf is critically edited by Prof. Mehmet Çiçek and published within the scope of “Late Classical Period Project”.
47. Issue of ISAM Bulletin Has Been Published
47th issue of ISAM Bulletin, which contains detailed information about ISAM’s academic projects, publishings and regular activities during the year 2020, has been published.
ISAM’s Logo and Corporate Identity Has Been Renewed
With its long-established history and conducted projects, ISAM is one of the most prominent research institutions in Turkey. Taking into account the 2014’s “restructuring process” and the future vision of the Centre, logo and corporate identity have been renewed.
A NEW BOOK published as part of the Project of the Second Classical Period!
The book written by Asst. Prof. Mehmet Sami Baga was published. In this book, the definition of the object, its metaphysical principles, its coming into existence and its relation with the philosophy of nature are discussed within the framework of the Hikmat al-‘ayn tradition.
A NEW BOOK published as part of the Project of the Second Classical Period!
Tradition of Commentaries - Glosses in Siyer Writing: The Case of Moğultay b. Kılıç written by Asst. Prof. Güllü Yıldız was published. This book, which is a step taken to fill the gap in question, has been written to introduce the historical development of commentaries and glosses in siyer writing and the works written within this tradition and to establish the place of al-Zahr al-bāsim written by Moğultay b. Kılıç (d. 762/1361) as a gloss upon Abd al-Raḥmān al-Suhaylī’s commentary al-Rawḍ al-unuf upon Ibn Hishām’s al-Sira al-Nabawiyya, in siyer writing.
et-Tesdîd fî şerhi’t-Temhîd, I-II (al-Tasdīd fī sharḥ al-Tamhīd, I-II)
Al-Tasdīd fī sharḥ al-Tamhīd, a book of Husāmaddīn Hussain al-Sighnākī (d. 714/1314), one of the important representatives of the Hanafi-Māṭurīdī tradition of his period, was critically edited by Ali Tarık Ziyat Yılmaz and published by ISAM as part of the Project of the Second Classical Period.
