The book aims to present the various dimensions of Sadr al-Din al-Qunawi’s thought in a clear and accessible way. He is a leading Muslim truth-seeker and the last “founding” thinker of theoretical Sufism (tasawwuf). In his attempt to overcome the problem of epistemic ‘certainty’ through Sufistic method based on revelation, al-Qunawi reinterpreted metaphysics beyond the limits of the classical tasawwuf and, in so doing, he brought a new dimension to Islamic mystical thought. He, by making deep comparative and critical analyses on the subjects common to philosophy, kalam and tasawwuf, helped the theoretical sufism become an instructible discipline.
