Müfessir Olarak Ali Kuşçu (ʿAlī Kushjī as a Commentator of the Qur’an)

It can be said that some commentaries and glosses on al-Kashshāf of Zamak̲h̲s̲h̲arī, which deeply influenced the later tafsir studies, constitute a center of attraction in the tafsir literature. One of such books is al-Taftazānī’s (d. 792/1390) gloss over al-Kashshāf. Among the many studies on this gloss is ʿAlī Kushjī’s (d. 879/1474) Ḥashiyatu ʿAlī Kushjī ‘alā Sharḥ al-Kashshāf li al-Taftazānī. However, despite being one of the most famous scholars of the period, it cannot be said that there is sufficient knowledge and studies about ʿAlī Kushjī’s work and expertise in Qur’anic exegesis.

This book, in which ʿAlī Kushjī's exegesis is analyzed through the gloss written by al-Taftazānī over a gloss of al-Kashshāf, introduces ʿAlī Kushjī and his work in detail and reveals his contributions to the science of tafsir by presenting both his views on the methodology of Qur’anic exegesis and his interpretations of the verses of the Qur’an.

Müfessir Olarak Ali Kuşçu (ʿAlī Kushjī as a Commentator of the Qur’an) offers an opportunity to understand both the continuity and the development in the field of tafsir together.
